III. Use Vigilant Business Software's interface with Seagull Scientific's BarTender label printing software
Option 1 requires Vigilant Business Software's Barcode Add-pn. Option 2 requires any third party label printing software, which can use ASCII files to produce barcode labels. Option 3 requires Seagull Scientific's BarTender label printing software.

Setting up Vigilant Business Software's Barcode Add-on
1. Install the barcode add-on from Vigilant's 'other options'
2. Go to the inventory management menu
3. Go to the inventory management utilities menu
4. Select 'set up pricing label print positions'
5. Choose the appropriate barcode printer driver
NOTE: OPTIONS 1-5 ARE FOR MS-DOS ONLY. THESE DRIVERS DO NOT PRINT BARCODES WITH WINDOWS
6. Choose the appropriate printer port
7. Select the scanning rules (option #1 is optimal)
8. Save the changes
II. Export barcode label printer data to an ASCII file
Vigilant Business Software allows you to save any label print job to an ASCII file (LABEL.ASC) in the Vigilant program directory (e.g.: C:\VIGILANT). See APPENDIX I for the LABEL.ASC file structure. This file can be used to print labels from 3rd party barcode label printing software.
The advantage of this option is labels are printed to any printer supported by the 3rd party software. Also, you do not need to purchase Vigilant's Barcode Add-on module or a special barcode printer. The disadvantage is you cannot print labels directly from Vigilant; you must implement a procedure (e.g.: batch file) to take LABEL.ASC produced by Vigilant to use the 3rd party software to print barcodes.
Setting up label printing to ASCII file
1. Go to the inventory management menu
2. Go to the inventory management utilities menu
3. Select 'set up pricing label print positions'
4. Choose option 3, 'Create ASCII file for other label printing software.'
III. Interface with BarTender Software
You may print barcode labels from Vigilant menus using labels created by Seagull Scientific BarTender label printing software for Window - Professional or Standard editions. A DOS version is also available.
The advantage of this option is you can print labels directly from Vigilant menu options to a vast list of printers supported by Windows and BarTender. The software is also very flexiable and easy to use. Once the labels are set up, you use Vigilant's interface and labels print without accessing the 3rd party software. You must purchase the BARTENDER SOFTWARE. For details see their website at www.seagullscientific.com.
Setting up Vigilant Business Software's Barcode Add-on
1. Set label printing in Vigilant to 'Create ASCII file for other label printing software.' (see steps in Part II above).
2. Create a label for one product code through Vigilant's inventory report menu. This will produce a LABEL.ASC file in the Vigilant program directory (e.g.: C:\VIGILANT) with the file structure illustrated in APPENDIX A.
3. Install the BarTender software
4/ Create your label using the BarTender software integrating the LABEL.ASC as the database. You may choose any of the fields contained in the LABEL.ASC in your labels. See BarTender's manual or technical support if assistance is erquired with these steps. Since Vigilant's interface uses BarTenders's label, ensure labels are printing to your specifications before proceeding to the next step.
5. Save your BarTender label as LABEL.BTW to the Vigilant program directory (e.g.: C:\VIGILANT).
6. Create the following LABEL.BAT file in the Vigilant program directory (e.g.:C:\VIGILANT.ASC).
C:\PROGRAM~1\BARTEN~1\BARTEND.EXE /F=LABEL.BTW /D=LABEL.ASC /P /X
Now you may print labels from Vigilant.
IV. Pricing Labels Without Barcodes
If barcodes are not required, you can define the pricing label print positions. You can use one of Vigilant's regular report printers to print labels by selecting a driver through Vigilant's 'other options.'
1. Go to the inventory management menu
2. Go to the inventory management utilities menu
3. Select 'set up princing label print positions'
4. Choose option 4, "NO BARCODE PRINTING."
Once you specify NO BARCODE PRINTING you are presented a screen to choose your label size, what and where you wish to print on the label. Save the settings and then choose the scanning rules, option #1 is optimal in most cases.
Note that you must set up the printer driver through Vigilant's 'Other Options,' 'Set Up Printers,' 'Pricing Labels.'
