Is the software ODBC compliant and how does ADO differ from ODBC?
In relation to integrating with the World Wide Web, Vigilant goes beyond ODBC, which merely provides data access and was designed with consideration to local access. VIgilant is using a superior ADO (Active X Data Objects), which allows enhanced access between the program, other databases and the Internet. While ODBC focuses primarily on the database, rather than the functions of business and availability of data, ADO offers increased flexibliity and is designed to move information across the Web at a relatively high speed. It can also operate without an Internet connection. ODBC, on the other hand, must remain on-line at all times. Since the time of ODBC's innovation, we have come to expect and demand more from our systems. By these older database standards, one was forced to pull the information from the system and reformat them before they could be sent across the Web. With ADO, this inconvenience is eliminated, transfering information from Vigilant with ease. Overall, ADO provides an improved ease and efficiency for the business.
